About the Campus

Two years ago, UVA | Northern Virginia changed how the region’s professionals could be always-on learners, now we’re changing where they meet so they can be always-on changemakers — with purpose and place.

Now open in the Inova Center for Personalized Health complex, this new 55,000-square-foot Fairfax Campus serves as the heart of UVA activity in Northern Virginia. Designed by Perkins&Will, constructed by The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, and brought to life with the expertise of UVA Facilities Management and Creative Services, the campus is a testament to innovation, flexibility, and connection.

Spanning the second and third floors of Building C, this urban campus is situated across the street from Inova Fairfax Hospital, home to our teaching hospital for third and fourth-year UVA medical students

A Space Designed for Learning & Connection

Every aspect of the Fairfax Campus was intentionally crafted to support the evolving needs of learners, combining UVA’s legacy of academic excellence with a forward-thinking approach to education. Flexible classrooms and seminar rooms on the second floor accommodate both in-person and virtual learning, while open work areas encourage interaction between students and faculty. The third floor offers a range of workspaces—including private focus rooms, touchdown stations, and a boardroom for committee meetings—ensuring professionals have the tools they need to succeed. A café provides healthy food options, and lockers support commuting students and faculty.

Designed with sustainability and well-being in mind, the campus fosters a connection to nature through natural materials, preserved plants, and views of the nearby forest. Illuminated overhead planes mimic ambient light, creating a dynamic and inviting environment. More than just a place for coursework, the Fairfax Campus is a hub for professional development, collaboration, and lifelong learning—welcoming working professionals, high school students, UVA alumni, and business leaders seeking world-class training.

“UVA | Northern Virginia’s physical space has big shoes to fill, but we won’t be a replica of Grounds in Charlottesville. We are committed to creating a space that upholds the richness of UVA excellence while connecting to the dynamic, metropolitan qualities of the DC area. The campus design reflects this tension: meeting old with new, connecting the natural with the urban.” – Executive Director, Julie Sara Boyd

“There will be a nursing student, an engineering student, and a business student all sharing the same space. If that’s attractive to you, that’s what you’ll get here. It more closely mirrors the undergraduate experience. You’ll return to being around people of all different interests and professional pursuits. You may find this personally compelling, but that’s not the only reason we’re doing this: the problems of society are solved by multiple functional areas. The way we’re structuring this campus is a more accurate representation of the way things get done. It drives innovation.” – Greg Fairchild, Dean and CEO of UVA | Northern Virginia
