Staff Spotlight: Meet UVA | Northern Virginia Intern Swetha Baskar

Meet Swetha Baskar, one of our student interns at UVA | Northern Virginia! Swetha joined our team this past fall, where she works with our marketing team to create content for social media and support a range of marketing projects. Outside of her role at UVA | Northern Virginia, she is a third-year UVA student studying Cognitive Science. Get to know Swetha below!

Q: What is your name, major, and year at UVA?

A: My name is Swetha Baskar, I am a third-year Cognitive Science Student at the University of Virginia.

Q: What are you studying, and what drew you to that field?

A: I am studying Cognitive Science because I was drawn to its versatility and my interest in problem solving and the sciences while also having a foundation in the humanities.

Q: What does a typical day look like in your role at UVA | Northern Virginia?

A: A typical day for me looks like collaborating with my fellow coworkers and mentors to best strategize for future marketing initiatives. This includes brainstorming innovative media posts, designing templates for our social media pages, and having discussions with my team to proactively plan for upcoming events.

Q: What has been your favorite project to work on so far?

A: I really enjoyed working on the social media posts for the UVA Inspire 2026 program, I was grateful to be a part of this remarkable program!

Q: What is something new you have learned during your internship?

A: I have learned how to effectively use designing and scheduling tools such as Canva, Air table, Gain, etc. But, I also have learned to effectively work with a team and how to best utilize everyone’s strengths to  best meet our goals.

Q: What is your favorite part about being a student at UVA?

A: The community, there is always an opportunity to connect with others here at UVA and be a part of something meaningful.

Q: What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of school or work?

A: I enjoy trying new coffee shops around Charlottesville and volunteering at the local ASPCA with shelter dogs.

Q: What is your favorite study spot on Grounds?

A: My favorite study spot on Grounds is Nau Hall.

Q: What is a fun fact about yourself that others might not know?

A: I’ve played the piano for years and have recently picked up on playing the guitar as well!

A: Have you visited the DMV area before? If so, what is your favorite place to go?

A: I am from the DMV area! My favorite place to go is Georgetown because of all the shopping and good food there!
