Staff Spotlight: Meet UVA | Northern Virginia Intern Autumn Hong
Meet Autumn Hong, one of our student interns at UVA | Northern Virginia! Autumn joined our marketing team four years ago and has been part of the UVA | Northern Virginia journey ever since. From helping share content around the grand opening of our Fairfax campus to showcasing the many programs, events, and community stories that followed, she’s truly been with us through it all. Throughout her time with us, she has played an important role in managing social media content and contributing to a wide range of marketing projects, all while balancing life as a student at the University of Virginia.
Now, as Autumn prepares to graduate this May with degrees in History and Music, we are incredibly proud of the growth, creativity, and dedication she has brought to our team over the years. We cannot wait to see where her next chapter takes her as she continues to bring UVA excellence wherever she goes.
Get to know Autumn!

Q: What is your name, major, and year at UVA?
A: My name is Autumn Hong and I am a fourth-year studying History and Music.
Q: What are you studying, and what drew you to that field?
A: I study history and music and I am drawn to those fields because I am really interested in how culture has existed throughout time and how people over generations always gravitate towards similar things. I think understanding history is a way to understand ourselves. Music has been a passion of mine for so long, I can’t imagine getting a higher education and wasting the opportunity to learn about music.
Q: What does a typical day look like in your role at UVA | Northern Virginia?
A: A typical day includes checking in with my other interns, Sophie and Swetha, and my supervisor, Jane. We work on different projects to help market programs like Inspire, evens like the Programs Fair, and just keep you up to date on all things Northern Virginia. I spend a lot of my time working on Canva and doing graphic design for social media. I love to be creative and use my artistic eye when I am working!
Q: What has been your favorite project to work on so far?
A: My favorite project has been helping with what the Fairfax campus could look like! It was super fun being creative and able to part of such a big project!

Q: What is something new you have learned during your internship?
A: I have learned a lot about being flexible. I have been working with UVA Northern | Virginia since I was a first year, and lots of things have changed. Evens working in social media is so volatile because trends and algorithms are changing so fast. I have learned to adapt quickly and that change always allows for room to grow.
Q: What is your favorite part about being a student at UVA?
A: I love the school spirit, I would’ve never guessed that I would been someone so invested in their sports teams and school pride, but I love being a Wahoo!
Q: What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of school or work?
A: Outside of school and work I do a lot of music on grounds! I am the drum major of Cavalier Marching Band, and I love performing at all the football games! It means a lot to me that I can be a part of that school spirit! I also am the principal conductor for the Cavalier Symphony Orchestra, and I am just so grateful to be around an ensemble that helps me get better.
Q: What is your favorite study spot on Grounds?
A: It’s technically off grounds because it is on the Corner, but I love to study at SK Coffee!
Q: What is a fun fact about yourself that others might not know?
A: I love to oil paint! I just started plein air painting around grounds!
A: Have you visited the DMV area before? If so, what is your favorite place to go?
A: The Anthem is one of my favorite music venues because I love to walk around the Wharf! It is so pretty and always bustling with people!
